Wheeling, W. Va. – The 2024-2025 season was another eventful season for the Wheeling University Athletic Department, with success both on and off the field. On Monday night, the Wheeling University Athletic Department will honor their student-athletes for all their hard work with the annual "Cardinal High Flyer Night." It is a night to celebrate the Cardinal student-athletes and their hardwork that they have displayed throughout the season.
"We are really excited to be celebrating our student-athletes and the hard work they put in on and off the field everyday," said Wheeling University Sports Information Director Zack Zeigler. "These athletes put in hours and hours of work that fans don't see that help put the success on the field that is seen by fans. It is exciting to bring the event back in person for the second year in a row and just get the chance to celebrate our student-athletes."
The event will begin with an opening prayer from Father David Griffin as well as an opening address by President Dr. Diana Vargo. Several teams will be giving away team awards throughout the night and the Wheeling University Athletic Department will give out their department awards for the 2024-2025 season. These awards include senior awards, the Male and Female Athlete of the Year and the CHARLES L. CURRIE, S.J. SCHOLAR – ATHLETE AWARD, as well as different awards for sportsmanship, on field performance, and stories that inspired us throughout the season. Also, for the first time, the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) will have their awards to give out to student-athletes as voted on by their peers.
Also for the first time, fans and family members are invited to join in on the fun. Admission for Cardinal High Flyer night is free and friends and family are welcome to join student-athletes in the celebration. For those who are not able to attend the event, the banquet will also be Live Streamed on MEC.TV for friends and relatives to be able to watch and celebrate with their sons or daughters for far away.
