Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling University Athletic Department started the Fall 2025 Academic Awards with a bang, tying the department record with 100 students honored on the Academic All-MEC list. The honors kept on coming for the Cardinals with the announcement of the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2025 semester. The Cardinals would finish with 61 honorees, equaling their number of honorees on the Commissioner's Honor Roll from 2024.
The Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll list includes all sports that competed in their conference championship season in the Fall 2025 semester; football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, and volleyball. In order to qualify for the MEC Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a GPA between 3.25 and 3.69 for the Fall 2025 semester. They must also have been an active member of the roster throughout the fall semester to be recognized. In total, 539 student-athletes were recognized across the MEC's 11 institutions, with The University of Charleston leading the conference with 82 honorees.
Leading the MEC on the Commissioner's Honor Roll was the University of Charleston, who finished with 82 honorees. Concord would finish second in the conference with 63 honorees, while Wheeling rounded out the top three with 61 student-athletes on the list. Leading the way for Wheeling was football with 33 honorees, the most of any single sport at any institution in the conference. They were followed by both the Men's Soccer and Women's Soccer teams, who had seven each to round out the top three. Volleyball (5), Men's Cross Country (3), Men's Golf (3), Women's Cross Country (2), and Women's Golf (1) rounded out the list of honorees.

The next Wheeling University athletic event is scheduled for Tuesday, January 20th, when the Wheeling University Wrestling team takes on Shippensburg at the Seton Hill Tri-Match at 6 PM.
