Wheeling, W. Va. - With the fall semester in the books, Wheeling University honored the top academic performers with the announcement of their Fall 2025 Dean's List. The Wheeling University Athletic Department was well represented on the list, with 250 student-athletes across the university's 22 varsity sports represented. It broke a department record for the second Fall semester in a row, with an increase of 11 students on this year's list.
These students showed exceptional time management, balancing the rigorous practice and game schedule of their sports, while being the top performers in the classroom. In order to qualify for the Wheeling University Dean's List, a student-athlete must make the requirements for both GPA and credit hours taken. The student must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA during the semester while also being a full-time student, needing 12 credit hours to qualify. It is the second straight fall semester that the Wheeling Athletic Department has raised the bar on academic performance, after they set the record during the Fall 2024 semester with 239 students making the list. The success was spread out across the entire Wheeling Athletic Department, with every varsity sport having at least one honoree on the list.
Leading the way for the Cardinal athletic teams was the Wheeling University Football team, who had 39 honorees on the list. They were followed by Women's Soccer team, who had 21 honorees, and the Baseball and Volleyball teams, who had 19 honorees each. Rounding out the list for the department were Men's Soccer (18), Women's Rugby (17), Softball (17), Women's Lacrosse (14), Women's Basketball (13), Men's Basketball (9), Wrestling (8), Women's Swimming (8), Women's Track & Cross Country (8), Men's Golf (7), Acrobatics & Tumbling (7), Men's Swimming (7), Men's Lacrosse (6), Men's Rugby (6), Men's Track and Cross Country (6), Women's Golf (1).

The next Wheeling University Athletic Event is scheduled for Saturday, January 10th, when the Wheeling Wrestling team hosts Davis & Elkins and Waynesburg in tri-meet action.
