Wheeling University Partners with Ohio County Humane Society for Adopt a Pet Day on September 12th

Wheeling, W. Va. – Looking to bring home a new furry friend to be part of your family? Wheeling University and the Ohio County Humane Society are teaming up to host Adopt a Pet Day On Saturday, September 12th, during the Mountain East Conference (MEC)/Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover Tournament and Wheeling Football's final non-conference battle against Lake Erie. Come on out from 12:30 to 6:00 to meet some of the shelters. Adoptable pets and learn more about the mission of the Ohio County Humane Society.

"Our University's mission of Faith, Learning, and Service with and Among Others extends across the local region and includes our furry friends," said Wheeling University Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Engagement Zack Zeigler. "We Are proud to partner with the Ohio County Humane Society to host Adopt A Pet Day, And help get these animals in need their loving forever homes."

Run by the Ohio County commission, the Ohio County Humane Society has been helping find forever homes for adoptable pets since the early 1900s. Their mission is to provide safe, compassionate care for animals in need, promote animal well-being, encourage responsible pet ownership, And place homeless pets into loving homes. The shelter is currently housing $29 dogs and 26 cats all looking for their forever homes. Adoption fees are $160 for dogs and $60 for cats and the adoption application can be found online by clicking HERE. Donations of items such as dry dog food, non-clumping, cat litter, and other essential items to take care of the animals are accepted at their location at 7011 National Road in Triadelphia, West Virginia. The event will run around a busy weekend of Wheeling Athletics, with both the Wheeling Volleyball and Football teams Playing at home. The action starts inside where volleyball will host the second day of the MEC/PSAC Crossover Event. The action begins at 9:30 AM With a neutral site match between Clarion and West Virginia State. The action continues with matches at 1 PM and 3 PM, with the Cardinals wrapping up the day against Clarion in the final match. For just $10 a day, fans can attend all three matches while visiting the Ohio County Humane Society tent outside the McDonough Center. At 4 PM, :00 the action moves to Bishop Schmitt Field, where Wheeling Football continues its non-conference schedule. The Cardinals will host Lake Erie College with kickoff at 4 PM, In what will be their second home game of the season. The Ohio County Humane Society will be set up during both games, offering fans a chance to visit the pets and learn more about the shelter.
