Wheeling Athletics Ties Department Record 100 on Academic All-MEC List for Fall 2025

Wheeling, W. Va. - With the second semester under way, winter and spring sports are preparing to take the field to round out the 2025-2026 athletic season. On Monday, the Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced their annual Academic All-MEC teams, honoring the top performing student-athletes in the classroom for the fall 2025 semester. The Wheeling University Athletic Department ranked top three in the MEC for the second season in a row, tying the program record with 100 student-athletes honored on this year's list.

The Fall Academic All-MEC list includes all sports that competed in their conference championship season in the Fall 2025 semester; football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's golf, and Volleyball. In order to make the Academic All-MEC list, a student-athlete must earn a GPA between 3.70 and 4.00 during the Fall 2025 semester. They must also be on their teams active roster for the entirety of the semester. In total, 766 student-athletes across the MEC's 11 institutions made the Academic All-MEC list, an increase of 74 from the 2024 Fall Academic All-MEC list.

Leading the list of honorees was the University of Charleston, who had 108 Academic All-MEC award winners. Wheeling would finish right behind them with 108 honorees, while Point Park rounded out the list with 81 student-athletes on the list. All eight fall sports programs were represented for the Cardinals, led by the Wheeling Football team with 31 honorees, the most of any sport at any institution across the conference. They were followed by Women's Soccer with 21 honorees and Volleyball with 16 honorees to round out the top three. They were followed by Men's Soccer (15), Men's Golf (6), Men's Cross Country (4), Women's Golf (4), and Women's Cross Country (3) to round out the list.
