Charleston, W. Va. – After warming up at the Vulcan Invitational a week ago, the Wheeling University Women's Golf team jumped head first into Mountain East Conference (MEC) play on Monday. They competed in the first round of the Charleston Invitational at Edgewood Country Club in Charleston, West Virginia, as they saw nearly all of their conference opponents. They sit in 12th place overall after day one, shooting a combined 347 across the first round of competition.
After putting up impressive numbers in the first event of the season, the four Cardinals continued that progression into their second tournament of the year. While no individual results were available following the first round of competition, the Cardinals find themselves sitting 12th overall in the field and fifth among their fellow MEC opponents, they finished one stroke behind Davis & Elkins to keep them out of the top four among conference foes, but remain in the top five as they begin preparations for the MEC Championships. The Cardinal's score was their highest single-round score of the season so far, but they look to climb the leaderboard in round two and get back into the top 10 of the event.
The Wheeling University Women's Golf team returns to action for round two of the Charleston Invitational on Tuesday, September 12th, with tee time scheduled for around 9 AM.
