Women's Golf Set for MEC Spring Classic to Round Out Conference Season

The Wheeling University Women's Golf Team return to action this week for the final time this spring, as they travel down to Fairmont, West Virginia, for the MEC Spring Classic. It will cap off a year which has been a new start for many, as head coach Thadd Obecny will round out his first full year in charge of the Women's team.

Having had an event in South Carolina cancelled, that Cardinal's last outing was the Findlay Spring Invitational at Boone's Trace National, where they placed 15th. It would be the team's first 36-hole-day event of the year in extremely challenging conditions, with the final round being cancelled due to high winds and cold weather. Ella Keffer would be the Cardinals best performer over the two rounds, shooting scores of 91 and 86 to place 65th.

Starting the year out with only 2 golfers, it has been a challenging and hard fought year for the Wheeling University Women's golf team. Many have stepped in to help the team at various tournaments, with a notable highlight including making the 36-hole cut at the MEC Championships in October, where they placed 6th. The Lady Cardinals will hope to use some of the momentum gained at the MEC Championships in the fall to overcome close MEC opposition this week, and end the year on a high note.

The Wheeling University Women's Golf team will get the MEC Spring Classic underway on Sunday, April 12th, from Green Hills CC with tee times beginning at 11am.
