ALLENDALE, MI—The Wheeling University Cardinals Women's Golf Team has wrapped up round two at Grand Valley State University. They still hold 16th place in the tournament, shooting a total of 357 in round two.
Junior Sawyer Hobbs got back to her first-place finish on the Cardinals team and tied for 29th overall. Hobbs started on the 16th hole and hit for par two holes in a row. On the back nine she ended up hitting six total pars. The front nine was amazing as she finished one over par. She hit a par on holes one, three, four, and five. She then hit two birdies on holes six and nine.
Right behind Hobbs was junior Tilly Jones, who finished tied for 53rd place overall. Jones on the front nine hit for par on holes one, two, four, five, and nine. An impressive stretch of play on the front nine where she went five over par. On the back nine she hit two pars and birdied hole 14, finishing nine over par. In total she finished 14 over par.
Sophomore Ivana Alvarez continued the birdie streak and tied for 85th overall. Alvarez hit the birdie on hole two. She also hit for par on holes one, four, and eight, finishing the front nine ten over par. On the back nine she had one par that came on hole ten, which led her to finish 11 over par. In total she went 21 over par.
The final golfer in the Cardinals top four was freshman Emma Mrkonja coming in 91st place. Mrkonja hit two pars on the front nine and finished the round 29 over par.
The Cardinals are back for round three tomorrow, looking to complete their first full invitational of the season.
