ALLENDALE, MI. - The Wheeling University Women's Golf Team played the first round of the Grand Valley State University Invitational, coming in 16th place as a team. In total they shot 48 over par.

There was a new Cardinal who took first place on the team as junior Tilly Jones shot an impressive 76 on the day, which was only four over par. She tied for ninth place with that score. She hit a birdie on the final hole of the front nine and also hit five pars. On the back nine she did even better. She hit for par on every single hole except one, as she picked up a bogey on hole 15. A very strong way to end the first round from Jones.

The next cardinal was junior Sawyer Hobbs, who had been the best cardinal golfer through the first three invitationals. Hobbs tied for 45th place and shot 81, which is nine over par. The front nine was a challenge, but she still managed to pick up four pars. Just like Jones, Hobbs did much better on the back nine. She birdied both holes 13 and 14 and then also picked up three pars. She finished the back nine three over par.

Sophomore Ivana Alvarez tied for 74th place and shot a total of 86 through round one, which is 14 over par. Alvarez had a strong start to her day as she too picked up a birdie on the front nine on hole three. She also had five pars on the front nine. On the back nine she hit par five times as well.

Rounding out the top four was junior Dorthea Evebo. Evebo shot a total of 93 and came in 87th place overall. She picked up a birdie on hole three just like her team, Alvarez, and hit par four times on the front nine.

Rounds two and three will commence on Monday to finish this event.
