ALLENDALE, MI - The Wheeling University Cardinals Women's Golf Team gets set to travel the farthest they have so far, as they go seven hours to Allendale, Michigan. They will compete in the Grand Valley State University Invitational. This will be the last of the regular season before the Mountain East Conference Women's Golf Championships.
All three of the Cardinals women's golf invitationals have been cut short this year due to inclement weather. This next invitational could be the first one they play through, with two rounds scheduled across two days of competition. The Cardinals will compete in 18 holes on each day, competing against some of the top programs in the country. Head Coach Thadd Obecny says that several of these teams they are competing against will likely be in the top 10 in the country at the end of the season, giving Wheeling a challenging base to go against.
Junior Sawyer Hobbs has been incredible for the Cardinals this season, as she has finished first on the Cardinals team in all competitions this season. Through four rounds of golf this season, she has shot a total of 308, averaging 77 shots per round. Her highest place of the year was when tied for third place in the Vulcan Invitational.
Another junior who has found a lot of success this season is Tilly Jones. Jones has shot a combined 322 through four rounds, which comes out to an 80.5 average. She tied for sixth place in the Vulcan Invitational, which was the highest she placed this season.
Continuing with the juniors who have made a difference this season are two in Brielle Milhoan and Dorthea Evebo. In their last invitational, they both placed in the top fifteen, with Evebo placing 13th and Milhoan tying for 15th.
The Grand Valley State University Invitational will take place September 26th and 27th, with one round being played each day.
