Richmond, KY. - The Wheeling University Women's Golf team got the second event of their 2026 spring season underway today as they teed it up in the Findlay Spring Invitational down in Richmond, Kentucky. The Cardinals would struggle in their first 36-hole day outing of the year, as they currently sit in 15th with one round to go.
Starting the day out strong this morning was Senior Ella Keffer, as she birdied her first hole of the day. The wind unfortunately would play a big part in the scoring as time went on, with Ella and the Cardinals struggling to keep up the mornings good start. Freshman Ivana Alvarez would shoot the best score of the morning for Wheeling with 90, with Keffer 1 shot behind her shooting 91. Brielle Milhoan and Kaily Banal would also struggle in the mornings wind, rounding out the first round with scores of 94 and 97.
A fresh start in the afternoon would do the Cardinals some good, with only 3 bogeys between them on the first 3 holes. Despite their efforts, mother nature had other ideas and the swirling wind continued to play its part. Senior Ella Keffer would stay cool in the afternoon, bettering her first round score by 5 shots, shooting 86 to top the Cardinal scoring. Freshman Ivana Alvarez would unfortunately add 5 onto her morning score in the afternoon, shooting 95, whilst Brielle Milhoan and Kaily Banal finished with afternoon scores of 100 and 105 respectively.
The Wheeling University Women's Golf tram will use the experience gained today in tough conditions to play the final round of the Findlay Spring Invitational, with tee times beginning around 9am.
