The Cardinals take On The MEC Championship, Six Cardinals Sit In Top 10

Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling Indoor Track and Field team heads to the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championship at Marshall University in Huntington, WV.

Last time out, the Cardinals traveled to Geneva, OH to compete in the SPIRE Indoor College Games. Eleven Cardinals competed in eight different events, with one making top 10. The day started with the field events where Mariah Pelkey competed in both throwing events. She came in 20th for the women's weight throw with a throw of 10.34 meters, and 28th in the women's shot up with a throw of 8.52 meters. Autumn Kerchner, Jalynn Shapley, and Amber Yoho joined Pelkey in the shot put ring. Kerchner placed 16th with a throw of 9.46 meters, while Shapley placed 25th with a throw of 8.67 meters. Yoho unfortunately fouled out with her first three throws. Autumn Kerchner competed in the high jump, recording a jump of 1.50 meters to tie for 12th.

Nyja Short competed in the long jump and women's 60 meter dash. She recorded a jump of 3.96 meters to place her in 25th, and crossed the finish line at 9.17 seconds to place herself in 35th. Madison Conrade, Jade Trowell, and Lucinda Banks all competed in the women's 800 meter run. Conrad was the only Cardinal to place top 10 after having a run of 2:24.61 to place ninth overall. Trowell was only two seconds behind Conrad at 2:26.49 to place 14th, and Banks finished the race at 2:50.45 to put her in 43rd.

Felix Manyani, Marcelin Tote, and Kris Vigars were the only three men that competed at SPIRE. Manyani and Tote competed in the men's long jump. Manyani had a jump of 5.95 meters to place 21st overall, while Tote placed 32nd with a jump of 4.99 meters. Vigars ran in the men's 400 meter run, and crossed the finish line at 53.61 seconds to place 41st. 

Six Cardinals currently sit top 10 of their events, with one sitting top 10 in two events and four of them being top five. Magnus Polkner, Autumn King, Fenne Sienaert, and Alexander Rodriguez are all top five for their events. Polkner is in third for the men's 800 meter run with a time of 1.54:38. King is in fifth for the women's high jump with a jump of 1.58 meters. Sienaert is in fifth for the women's pentathlon with a score of 2894. Lastly, Rodriguez is in first for the men's pole vault with a jump of 4.45 meters. 

Autumn Kerchner and Fenne Sienaert are both top 10 for the women's high jump, with Kerchner sitting in sixth with a jump of 1.54 meters and Sienaert in ninth with a jump of 1.50 meters. The men's 4x400 meter relay, which consists of Magnus Polkner, Taven Mayo, Jacob Legg, and Hunter Tomich is in eighth with a time of 3.40:51.

The MEC Championship meet will start at 11 AM for both Saturday, February 21st and Sunday, February 22nd, and will be held at Marshall University in Huntington, WV.
