Youngstown, Oh. - For the first time in the 2025-2026 season, the Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team competed in a two-day weekend event. The first day of action was led by the track events, with four different Cardinals competing against four different events. For the second time in three straight meets, a program record fell as the Cardinals picked up two top 15 finishes on the day.
It was another record breaking performance for sophomore Magnus Polkner, who competed in the Men's 1000-Meter Run. He set the program record at the Muskie Meet #1, when he ran a time of 2:34.05, and took the top spot in the field. This time out, he was competing against top DI competition, and it elevated his game even farther. Polkner would drop just under six seconds off his first performance to break the 1000 Meter School record for the second time this season. It was also good for the fastest 1000 Meter time in the Mountain East Conference (MEC) as he continues a strong sophomore campaign on the track.
The other top 15 finish came from Kris Vigars, who competed in the 500-Meter Dash for the second time this season. He would also show continued improvement on the track, setting a PR in the event with a time of 1:10.34. He dropped over a second off his previous best time, and it was enough to earn a 15th place finish overall. It ranked seventh amongst the NCAA DII athletes in competition, as he started his day off strong. The other two Cardinals to compete on day one were Hunter Tomich and Taven Mayo. Tomich would compete in the 5000 Meter Dash and finished 39th overall with a time of 16:29.18. Rounding out the effort was Taven Mayo, who competed in the 60-Meter Dash, running a time of 7.65.
The Wheeling University Track & Field team returns for day two of the YSU College Mid Major with first events beginning at 9:30 AM.
