New Concord, Oh. - The Wheeling Men's Indoor Track and Field Team had a quick road trip to New Concord, OH. Eight Cardinals represented Wheeling in eight different events, with three competing in two events. Three made podium, with two of them winning their events. Their next meet is Friday, January 23rd at Kent State University.
After six weeks of no competition, the Cardinals travel to Muskingum University for the Muskie Meet to open the new year. Eight Cardinals competed in the meet with three making podium. Magnus Polkner, Alexander Rodriguez, and Kris Vigars were able to score points for their team, with Polkner and Rodriguez both placing first in their events. Magnus Polkner competed in the Men's 1000 meter run and placed first with a run time of 2:34.05. Along with scoring 10 points for his team, Polkner now holds the school record for the 1000 meter run after his performance today. Teammate Alexander Rodriguez gets to join Polkner in first place after his performance at the pole vault pit. Rodriguez had a jump of 4.25 meters to put himself on top of the podium, and gave his team 10 more points. Karis Vigars contributed five points to his team after he placed fourth in the 500 meter run with a run time of 1:11.51. Vigars also competed in the 60 meter dash and had a run time of 7.83 seconds.
The five other Cardinals made great efforts in their respective events over the day. Taven Mayo Joined Vigars in the 60 meter dash and had a run time of 7.73, placing him one spot ahead Vigars. Mayo also joined Rodriguez at the pole vault pit and finished with a jump of 3.20 meters. Hunter Tomich and Redick Moore ran against each other in the 3000 meter run. Tomich finished with a time of 9:32.76, and Moore finished about 30 seconds behind with a time of 10:01.82. Tyler Crook ran solo in the 800 meter and mile, finishing with a run time of 2:26.02 in the 800 meter and a run time of 5:18.88 in the mile. Jacob Legg was the last Cardinal to compete for the day. He competed in high jump and had a jump of 1.68 meters.Â
The Cardinals were able to bring home 25 points at the end of the day. Despite not being able to compete in as many events as they would like, the men of the Wheeling Track and Field team still showed up and gave their all in their respective events. Three Cardinals, Erick Berroa, Alexander Rodriguez, and Taven Mayo, are top 10 in the conference in their respective events. Rodriguez is number one in the Mountain East Conference for pole vault, while Mayo is eighth in pole vault and Berroa is ninth in the 400 meter run.Â
The Cardinals will be back on the road Friday, January 23rd to Kent State University for the Judd Logan Memorial Invitational with events starting at 9 AM.
