Akron, OH. - The throwers would get things started on day one of the Akron Last Chance Invitational, and day two featured action on the track. The Cardinals had three athletes compete in two different events, with a top five finish rounding out the action. It was the distance events leading the way, as the Cardinals continue their final push for an NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championship spot. 

The leading performance would come in the Men's 1500-Meter run, as graduate student Hunter Tomich took the starting line. The Cardinal veteran was faced with a field of five unattached runners, and he would compete right along with them. He would end up finishing fourth in the field, running a time of 4:28.20, finishing just .12 seconds shy of cracking the top three of the event. In what could be the final event of his collegiate career, Tomich finished things out strong, setting a PR for the 1500 meter run. It was a more than two second PR for Tomich, who has been a veteran leader for both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams throughout his career. 

The other two competitors for the Cardinals came in the Men's Pole Vault, with Taven Mayo and Alexander Rodriguez each competing. The bar was set high right from the beginning, with the first height at 4.10 meters, as Taven Mayo attempted the height. He would take all three tries, but wasn't able to clear the bar as he ended with no height at the event. After passing on the first three heights of the night, Rodriguez came in at the 4.55 meter mark. He would also take all three of his attempts, but was unable to get over the bar, rounding out his effort with a no height. Despite not putting up a height, it was two strong efforts for the team's top two pole vaulters this season. 

The Wheeling University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team returns to action on Sunday, May 10th, when they compete at the Grand Valley State last chance invitational.
