Rodriguez Sets Outdoor PR in Pole Vault at Grand Valley State Last Chance Invitational

Allendale, MI. - After a week's worth of competition, it all came down to a Sunday afternoon meeting in Allendale, Michigan for the Wheeling University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team. Freshman Alexander Rodriguez would represent the team at the Grand Valley State Last Chance meet as the team wrapped up their Last Chance schedule. The freshman wrapped up his year with a bang, setting a new outdoor PR, while falling just short of hitting the NCAA DII provisional mark in the event.

After passing on the first height of the day, Rodriguez entered the event with the bar being set at 4.50 meters, sitting .05 meters shy of the mark that he hit to win the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships. Rodriguez needed just one run-up to clear the bar and advanced to the 4.65 meter height, being just one of seven athletes to advance to the height. After missing the mark on his first run, he would vault himself over the bar to set his new outdoor track & field PR in the event. He would end up passing on the next height, trying for an NCAA DII provisional mark right away on his next attempt. The bar would be raised to 4.93 meters, .06 meters higher than that the provisional mark. He would get three tries, but was unable to clear the height, bringing his day to an end. He would end up taking seventh in the event, rounding out his Last Chance schedule.

The Wheeling University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team will now await to see if they have any qualifiers for the 2026 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
