Women’s Golf Ready to Return to the Course with Release of Spring Golf Schedule

Wheeling, W. Va. - During the Fall 2025 season, the Wheeling University Women's Golf team had strong veteran leadership that shined throughout the season. As the calendar flips to 2026, the Cardinals look to use that leadership to build a strong foundation of success under Head Coach Thadd Obecny. On Thursday, the team released their 2026 Spring schedule, featuring four tournaments as the players look to grow on the course throughout the season.

During the fall season, the Cardinals competed in five regular season tournaments, spanning a wide array of competition levels. The year began at home for the Wheeling Invitational, where the Cardinals put up a two-round score of 855 to finish 6th overall. They would follow that up with a trip to The University of Charleston, finishing 18th in the field with a 905 over two rounds. As the season went on, individual success took the forefront, with Ella Keffer and Brielle Milhoan carrying the team through the fall. A Tournament win at the Pipesteam classic would be the highlight and Wheeling entered the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championships looking to climb the ladder. They would advance to the third day, and finished sixth overall with a three-round score of 1265. They put one on the MEC's All-Tournament team, rounding out a strong individual fall season.

The spring will feature four tournaments for the Cardinals, who have seen their roster increase from three regulars to five full-time players. They will start the year at the Ohio Dominican Invitational, running March 8th – 10th in Columbus, Ohio. It will be the Cardinal's first time out on the course for the spring as they take advantage of the winter thawing. They continue the stretch of regional play the following week, heading back to Ohio for the University of Findlay Open March 16th – 17th. The first two tournaments will offer the Cardinals a chance to see what is around the region, and measure how they stack up with the rest of the field.

Wheeling will round out the month with a trip down south, heading to Greenville, South Carolina to take advantage of the warm weather. They will compete at the North Greenville University Open March 23rd – 24th. After seeing a heavy dose of regional play early, it will give the Cardinals a chance to see talent from across the country and challenge some of their top players. The year will then round out at the annual MEC Spring Classic April 12th – 13th, where the conference will come together one last time. The two day event will be the conclusion of the spring golf season, and the annual All-MEC teams will be crowned following the event.

The Wheeling University Women's Golf team begins their spring season on Sunday, March 8th, when they compete on day one of the Ohio Dominican Open.
