Fairmont, W. Va. - The Wheeling University Women's Golf team continued their Mountain East Conference (MEC) stretch on Monday when they competed across the first 18 holes of the Senator Larry Edgell Invitational. The top two Cardinal golfers this season were at the event, and both would pick up top 20 finishes to lead the Cardinals on the day. The duo combined to shoot a 168 over the first 18 holes of play as they continue their push towards the 2025 MEC Women's Golf Championships.
Leading the way for the Cardinals was senior Ella Keffer, who continued her strong start to the season, shooting a 78 (+8) for the round. She would start her day with a Bogey on hole one, but was able to find her consistency as the night went on. She hit par on the next four holes, and sat at just +1 five holes into the event. A birdie on hole eight would finish out the opening nine, and Keffer headed to the back nine with a +3. She would par on hole 10 before hitting her second birdie of the day on hole 10 to start the back nine and sat at +2 with seven holes to play. She would par on three of those final seven holes and would shoot +5 on the back nine. It brought her round one score to +8, but it was enough to keep her in the top 10 of the event. She would finish tied with a foursome of MEC golfers as they head into round two tomorrow.
The other Cardinal to take the course on the day was sophomore Brielle Milhoan, who shot a 90 (+20) to round out the day. She started strong, evening out a bogey on hole one with a birdie on hole two to sit even through two holes. She would hit par three more times on the front nine and sat at just +5 as they headed into the back nine. She added three more pars to her score, but some trouble in the middle of that back nine added 15 strokes to her score. She would finish just outside the top 20 of the event, finishing 23rd overall and sitting just two strokes out of the top 20 of the event as she heads into day two.
Day Two of the Senator Larry Edgell Invitational tees off on Tuesday, September 23rd, with tee times beginning at 11 AM.
