Pipesteam, W. Va. – The season of Personal Bests continues for Wheeling Women's Golfer Ella Keffer as the Wheeling Women's Golf team competed at the Pipesteam Invitational. Wheeling was one of five teams at the event and competed individually with three golfers taking the course for the Cardinals. Two of those golfers would finish in the top five, led by Keffer, who sits in first place after 18 holes of play.
The senior began her day on her one and hit three pars to start her event. As she entered hole four, Keffer would hit her first birdie of the day bringing her score to -1 through four holes. She would even out her score on hole five but was able to get right back on track with three straight pars on holes six, seven, and eight. She rounded out the front nine strong by hitting her second birdie of the day on hole nine. As she hit the turn for the back nine her score sat at -1 and she would hope to shoot under par for the first time in her golfing career. She would start the back nine at +1, but bounced back nicely with birdies on two of the next three holes. After that, her big day would continue as she hit par on four straight holes. It set her up at -1 heading into the 18th hole, and all she needed was a birdie to hit under par. However, she would end up shooting double on the final hole, but still finished the day at even. She would set a PR for the fourth time in five rounds, shooting a 72, and leading the tournament field after 18 holes.
The other Cardinal to crack the top five of the event was Brielle Milhoan, who finished 5th overall. Like Keffer, Milhoan started on hole one and had a strong start to the day on the front nine. She would hit par five times on the front nine and finished at +6 after nine holes. She would hit a rough patch on the back nine, but finished strong over the final four holes. She would hit par on three of those holes, including back-to-back on 17 & 18, and finished with an 87 on the day. It was good enough for the sophomore to finish fifth in the field and finished fourth among MEC golfers at the event. Rounding out the day was Mallory Bozovich, who shot a big PR in the first round. She dropped six strokesoff her previous PR, shooting a 107 to finish 16th. Her best performance of the day came on hole eight, where she picked up her first career par. She would also add four bogeys on the day to round out the career best performance.
Round two of the Pipesteam Classic is set for Tuesday, September 16th, with tee times.
