Women’s Golf Takes Second, Has Two Top Five Finishers, at WLU Invitational

West Liberty, W. Va. - The spring calendar moved to April and the Wheeling University Women's Golf team headed to a familiar foe at the West Liberty Spring Invitational. The Cardinals were one of four teams in competition at the event and finished second overall with an 18-hole score of 422. The Cardinals had two golfers finish in the top five of the event as they continue their growth on the course throughout the spring portion of the season.

Leading the way was junior Ella Keffer, who took third overall at the event shooting an 86 across 18 holes. After a slow start on the first three holes, Keffer was able to get things straightened out with four pars on the next five holes. She would finish the front nine at +7 and looked to move her momentum onto the back nine to round out the day. She would once again start going +4 on the first three holes, but back-to-back pars got her back on track. She would add one final par on hole 17 and rounded out her day with a +8 on the back nine. She finished with an 86 on the day, sitting one stroke shy of her average round score for the season. She looks to continue building on that success as the team continues through their spring season.

Finishing one spot behind her was senior Nicole Lincicome, who took fourth in the field shooting a 91 on the day. Like Keffer, Lincicome also got her start on hole one, and sat at +9 through six holes. However, hole seven would be her best of the day, picking up her first birdie of the season to knock a score off her stroke. She finished the front nine at +9 and would add a +11 on the back nine to round out the day. Up next was Brielle Milhoan, who would finish seventh shooting a 97 on the day to continue her spring season. She was consistent throughout the day, picking up five total pars and shooting +13 on each of the turns. Rounding out the group was Mallory Bozovich, who finished with a 148, lowering her round score for the third straight event.

The Wheeling University Women's Golf team returns to action on Monday, April 14th, when they take on the MEC Spring Golf Classic in Charleston, West Virginia.
