Brenner Chase Earns GMAC Offensive Player of the Week After Big Showing

Wheeling, W. Va. – With Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) play in full swing, the Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team has begun their road to the 2025 GMAC playoffs. On Monday, the conference released their weekly Player of the Week honors, and it was the Cardinals offensive leader that was honored. Senior attack Brenner Chase was named the GMAC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Cardinals to a 1-1 record in conference play.

The senior would lead the offense scoring eight goals, one assist, and nine points across the two games. Wheeling would kick off the week against Lake Erie College in a game that was tight until the end. Chase was one of two cardinals to score multiple goals in the game finishing with three goals and one assist. The senior would pick and choose his shots throughout the night, putting four of his five shots on net in what was his most efficient game of the week. Chase would come back against Walsh and continued his offensive success, scoring five goals on the day. Four of those five goals came during the teams seven goal run, where Chase would score the first three goals of the second half to help Wheeling seal the victory.

Through the team's first six games, Chase has been their leading scorer with 13 goals and is tied for the team lead with 17 points on the season. The senior is currently riding a streak of four straight multi-goal games, dating back to the team's February 22nd matchup against Holy Family University. He has also had a .667 or better shooting percentage in five of the six games this season. Chase is a top 10 scorer in the conference, sitting 9th with 13 goals while averaging 2.17 goals per game. As Wheeling continues through their GMAC schedule, Chase looks to continue leading the  Cardinal offense on their run to a spot in the GMAC tournament.

Brenner Chase's win marks the 42nd time a Wheeling University student athlete has earned conference Player of the Week honors this season. He is the second Wheeling Men's Lacrosse player to earn GMAC Player of the Week honors this season, joining teammate Gabriel Hennin. He is also the second Cardinal this week to earn Player of the Week honors after Acrobatics & Tumbling base Savannah Warren earned Mountain East Conference (MEC) Specialist of the Week for the team's first win against West Virginia State.

The Wheeling University Men's Lacrosse team returns to action on Tuesday, March 18th, when they take on Seton Hill at 4 PM.
