The Cardinals Dominates Point Park In 15-5 Victory

Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling Men's Lacrosse team (4-4, 3-3) got their highest score of the season winning 15-5 over Point Park. Eight different Cardinals were able to score throughout the night, with three getting three or more goals.

Wheeling got the night started fast with a faceoff win from Mason Malec, getting Ben Tornatore the first goal of the game less than a minute in. Josh Wesneski was next to score, followed by Jack Rowe and Andrew Turner. Point Park didn't get on the board until about half way through the quarter, making it their only goal of the quarter. Rowe got the final goal of the quarter to make the score 5-1.

Point Park started the quarter winning the faceoff, but about a minute and half in, the game paused for a lighting delay. After the 30 minute delay, Zach Bridenbaker got his first goal of the night. Malec won the following faceoff, but the ball went back and forth a couple times before Zander Thomas was able to add to the board. Point Park got their second goal of the night a minute later. Hajiyianni Marin won the next faceoff, resulting in Wesneski's second goal of the game. Wheeling and Point Park shared possession for the remaining four minutes and 25 seconds, but no one got another goal before going into half time with Wheeling up 8-2.

The third quarter started off a little slower than the other two. It took almost five minutes before a goal was scored, until Bridenbaker found the back of the net to get his second goal of the night. Three minutes later, Wesneski got his third goal of the night to push the lead to eight. Malec won the next faceoff, allowing Bridenbaker to find Rowe for a fast break goal. Bridenbaker then followed Rowe's goal with his own to give himself a hat trick. Point Park was able to get their third goal of the night with two minutes left.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Point Park was able to get the first goal of the quarter, two minutes in. Tornatore got his second goal of the night after a couple possession changes, while Ayden Shephard followed quickly behind to get a goal for himself. Point Park got their fifth and final goal of the game, after five minutes of possession changes. Rowe got the final goal of the night with 45 seconds left to give Wheeling a 15-5 victory.

Rowe led the attacking end with four goals and one assist for five points, while Turner also got five points, but with one goal and four assists. Riley Lincoln, Landen Martin, and Landon Gallagher led defensively with them all getting four groundballs, to add to the team's total of 31; with Owen Worley causing four turnovers and picking up two ground balls of his own. The faceoff team of Malec, Marin, Dominico Cataldo, and Nate Casterner went 12-24 in faceoffs combined. Martin made 17 saves on 21 shots, only allowing four goals.
