Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling Men's Lacrosse team (4-4, 3-3) hit the road to Tiffin, OH for their seventh Great-Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) of the season, looking to gain their fourth conference win. The Cardinals hosted Point Park University for the first time on Wednesday, and had their highest scoring game for the season after beating the Pioneers 15-5. Eight different Cardinals were able to score throughout the night, with three getting three or more goals.
Jack Rowe led the attacking end with four goals and one assist for five points, while Andrew Turner also had five points, but with one goal and four assists. Riley Lincoln, Landen Martin, and Landon Gallagher led defensively with them all getting four groundballs, while Owen Worley caused four turnovers. The faceoff team of Mason Malec, Hajiyianni Marin, Dominico Cataldo, and Nate Casterner went 12-24 in faceoffs combined. Martin made 17 saves on 21 shots, only allowing four goals.
Rowe still leads the Cardinals in goals and points with 19 goals and 26 points, while Turner leads in assists with 10. Martin leads defensively with 28 ground balls and a .606 saver percentage, while Lincoln leads in caused turnovers with nine. Malec leads in faceoff wins going 42-90, while Marin has a .545 faceoff percentage win going 6-11.
The Matchup
Wheeling and Tiffin will be meeting for the third time in program history, with the Cardinals winning both matchups. Last season, Wheeling won 14-5 with five Cardinals scoring on the day. Former Cardinal Dylan Lavern had five on the day, while Jack Rowe was right behind him with three.
Tiffin is currently 2-3 in G-MAC play after losing to Seton Hill 23-7. Three Dragons scored throughout the day, with all three getting two or more goals. Junior attacker Matthew Nunnaro led offensively with three goals. Junior midfielder Connor Gucwa led defensively with two ground balls and one caused turnover. Freshman Phoenix Biggs was their lead faceoff man going 4-18. Tiffin had three different goalkeepers in the cage, with junior Tyler Nutting playing most of the game and making 15 saves on 35 shots.
