Columbus, OH. – On Monday, the Wheeling University Women's Golf team began a stretch of back-to-back Regional Tournaments at the Ohio Dominican Golf Championships. The Cardinals sent three golfers to the event and did not produce a team score, but got the chance to compete against some of the top teams in the region. Wheeling had one golfer finish in the top 70 of the event, and it was a bounce back effort that led the way.
That bounce back came from
Nicole Lincicome who, after finishing third out of four Cardinal golfers last time out, led the way for Wheeling with an 88 through the first 18 holes. After shooting +4 over the first three holes on the front nine, Lincicome settled in with her first par of the day on whole four. It was the first of back-to-back pars and four pars over the final six holes. She finished+6 on the front nine, shooting a 41 and carried that momentum onto the back nine. Her first Birdie of the day would come on hole 10, and she would add two more pars on the back nine, shooting a 47 to bring her combined score to 88. It was the best showing of the season so far for the senior, who dropped six strokes off her round one score at Charleston.
Finishing behind her was freshman Brielle Milhoan, who was competing in her second collegiate event. She finished 76th overall, shooting a 92 in the first round. She picked up three pars on the day, two of those coming in the front nine as she continues to learn the collegiate golf courses. The final golfer of the day for Wheeling was junior
Ella Keffer, who took 94th overall shooting a 98 on the day. Her best showing on the day was on the back nine, where she picked up her two pars on the day.
The Wheeling University Women's Golf team plays round two of the ODU Golf Championships on Tuesday, September 17th, with tee times beginning around 9 AM .
