Wheeling, W. Va. – After playing the first 18 holes of the season on Monday, the Wheeling University Women's Golf team was back on the course Tuesday for round two of the Charleston Golden Eagle Invitational. As a team, the Cardinals were able to drop 12 strokes off their score as they finished 15th with a two round total of 840. Three of the four golfers who took the course were able to drop strokes off their day one scores to finish out the event strong.
Brielle Milhoan once again led the Cardinals, improving on her already strong start to her collegiate career. The freshman dropped four strokes off her day one scores, shooting an 85 to bring her two day total to 174 for the event. Just as she did on day one, After a slow start to the front nine that saw her at +4 after three holes, Milhoan would finish the front nine strong. She picked up her first collegiate birdie on hole eight and finished the front nine shooting +6. As she moved to the back nine, she was able to pick up her final two pars of the day on holes 11 and 12, before finishing consistent with five bogeys on the final five holes. She finished the back nine at +9 as she finished just outside the top 40 of the event. It was a strong showing for the freshman's first collegiate event and she looks to continue the success as the year goes on.
Sitting behind her was junior
Ella Keffer, who finished in a tie for 53rd with a two-day score of 178. Like Milhoan, Keffer would also drop strokes off her day one score, shooting an 88 over the final 18. She would also pick up her first birdie of the season on hole eight, and came off the front nine shooting a +8. She would add two more pars on the back nine to finish out her day dropping the two strokes. The biggest drop of day two came from
McKenzie Thomas, who was able to take eight strokes off her day one score, shooting a 143. After not competing in athletics for two years, Thomas had a nice bounce back as she looks to continue to grow on the course. The final showing from day two was senior
Nicole Lincicome, who would finish tied for 67th with a two-day score of 190. She shot a 96 on day two to round things out for the Cardinals.
The Wheeling University Women's Golf team returns to action on Monday, September 16th, when they compete at the Ohio Dominican Invitational.
