Wheeling, W. Va. - After sending two to day three of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Women's Golf Championships, the Wheeling Women's Golf team wrapped up the championship event on Wednesday. The team would finish the event with two top 20 finishers after the final round, wrapping up the fall portion of their schedule. Junior
Ella Keffer would finish in a tie for 15th and senior
Nicole Lincicome finished 17th to round out the final day of competition.
For Keffer, it was her highest finish of her career at the championship event, shooting an 87 on the final day to bring her three-day total to 259. Keffer would start her day on the back nine of the course, where she put together her best performance of the day. After shooting +3 on the first two holes, Keffer got a stroke back with a birdie on hole 12 that got her back on track. She would hit par on five of the final six holes, finishing the back nine with a +3. As she hit the front nine, she would add two more pars to her score, but struggles early on in the nine would have her shoot +12. Round two would prove to be Keffer's best round of the tournament as she finished the career-best championship event.
Leading the Cardinals on day three was Lincicome, who jumped two spots in the standings to finish 17th with a three-day score of 262. She would also start the day on the back nine, where she was consistent throughout. She started with back-to-back Bogeys, before picking up two straight pars on holes 12 and 13. She would pick up four pars on the back nine and was sitting at +5 as she hit the turn. She would hit the front nine strong, shooting her first birdie of the day on hole one and added a second birdie on hole eight. She finished her round with a par on hole nine to shoot +8 and finished +13 for the round.
The Wheeling University Women's Golf team now heads into the off-season as they prepare for their spring season in 2025.
