Leading the way was junior Ella Keffer, who finished 15th overall with an 88 through 18 holes. The junior started her day in the front nine, and was consistent all the way through. She bogeyed on each of the first six holes, sitting at +6 after six holes. She would par for the first time on hole seven and added two more bogeys to finish the front nine at +8. As she headed into the back nine, she hit some struggles early, shooting +9 on the first six holes. However, she would get back on track with a par on hole 16, and followed with her first birdie on hole 17. It was part of a string finish as she shot par on hole 18 to finish +8 for the back nine. Her 88 has her just five strokes out of a top 10 spot as she heads into round two of competition.
 

Finishing just outside the top 20 was senior Nicole Lincicome, who should a 94 through the first 18 holes. After a slow start on the front nine, Lincicome had a nice bounce back, shooting a +6 on the back nine. It ended up being the lowest nine hole score of any Cardinal on the day, as she picked up three pars and three bogeys on the final nine to bring her score to 94. The final Cardinal was freshman Brielle Milhoan, who competed in her first career MEC Championship event. She would finish tied for 25th on the day, shooting a 98 through 18 holes. She would collect four pars on the day, two each on the front nine and back nine, as she rounded out the day.
 

Day two of the MEC Women's Golf Championships is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8th, with tee times scheduled for around noon.
