Cardinals Drop 14 Strokes off Score to Finish Tied for 10th at Charleston Invitational

Charleston, W. Va. – The University of Charleston Invitational wrapped up on Tuesday with the final 18 holes being played at Edgewood Country Club. The Wheeling University Women's Golf team entered the day in 12th place, but battled their way into the top 10 by dropping their team score by 14 strokes. They shot 334 on the second day of competition, and finished the tournament tied for 10th shooting a combined 682.

Leading the day two lineup was junior Nicole Lincicome, who shot a 79 on the day to drop her day one score by five strokes. She finished in the top 30 of the event and combined to shoot 163 between the two rounds. She began the day with back-to-back pars on holes one and two and finished the front nine at +4. As she moved to the back nine, she finished her afternoon with six straight pars from hole 13 to hole 18 and did just enough to get under the 80 stroke mark. Lincicome leads the Cardinals in a tournament for the first time this season as she continues to build towards the MEC Championships. She is the lone All-MEC award winner returning this season, and she looks to make it three straight All-MEC awards during her junior season.

The biggest improvement from day one to day two came courtesy of sophomore Ella Keffer, who went from a 95 on day one to shooting an 83 on day two. Things didn't begin the way Keffer wanted them to, hitting bogey on her first five holes of the front nine, but she rebounded, shooting +4 over the back nine to secure the strong finish to the tournament. Sophomore Marra Johnson equaled Keffer's second round effort, shooting an 83, including a birdie on hole three and a +2 on the back nine. Johnson turned in another strong tournament for the Cardinals, shooting a 167 across the two rounds. Zoila Herrera would round out the second day of competition, shooting an 89 to bring her two day total to 174 for the two day tournament.

The Wheeling University Women's Golf team returns to action on Monday, September 18th, when they head to the Davis & Elkins Invitational.
