BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (May 11) - Wheeling University women's golf senior
Bailey Frederick (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) and freshman
Emily Holzopfel (Rayland, Ohio/Buckeye Local) were announced as All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) honorees announced the league office Monday afternoon.
Frederick was named All-MEC Second Team, while Holzopfel earned a nod as an honorable mention. The All-MEC teams, along with Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, were determined by the finish at the MEC Championship conducted last fall.*
Frederick placed seventh overall at the fall championships held at the Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, West Virginia. After carding rounds of 83 and 91 to open play, Frederick shot up the leaderboard with a final round-77 to finish among the top-10 (251) and earn second-team laurels.
Holzopfel also turned in a top-15 finish at Glade Springs back in October to earn honorable mention honors. She posted identical rounds of 86 on the first two days, before shooting an 87 (259) to tie for 14
th overall at the event.
* The MEC's all-conference teams are typically the scoring average from select events in both the fall and spring. Due to the cancellation of spring events, the all-conference teams were selected based on the finish at the conference championship event in October at Glade Springs Resort.
