MASON, W.Va. (Sept. 29) - The Wheeling University women's golf team finished in third place at the nine-team, two-day Ohio Valley University Shriners Hospital Shootout played at the Riverside Golf Club Saturday and Sunday.
Freshman
Emily Holzopfel (Rayland, Ohio/Buckeye Local) carded a first round of 85, but turned in a second round 78 to move into a tie for ninth overall (163) and lead the team at the event that featured 48 competitors from nine teams.
Senior
Bailey Frederick (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) finished in a tie for 15th-place with rounds of 85 and 83 (168), while three other members of the team finished among the top-25. Freshman
Zoila Herrera (Miami, Fla./Coral Gables), sophomore
Olivia Zampedro (Mentor, Ohio/Lake Catholic) and freshman
Kylee Tolliver (Reedsville, Ohio/Eastern) placed 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively.
Ohio Valley won the team award with a combined score of 640, while Fairmont State's Sydney Brill won a three-way tie-breaker to take home medalist honors with rounds of 78 and 77 (155).
Wheeling's team score of 686 was the lowest score at a two-day event this season for the Cardinals.
Wheeling closes out the fall season on Monday and Tuesday, October 7 and 8 at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Fall Championships at the Glade Spring Resort in Daniels, West Virginia.
