WHEELING, W.Va. - The Wheeling Jesuit Men's and Women's Swim teams both came away with an impressive victories over a tough opposition in Urbana University on Friday at the McDonough Center.

The Cardinal Men took a win with a final score of 145-107, while the women won 134-85.

"I'm really proud of how both teams performed," said WJU head coach Mike Meyers. "They are a good team, and swam well in our home pool, but our kids really swam hard tonight. Both were great wins against a quality opposition."

The women's team started off impressively in the first event of the night, the 400 Yard Medley Relay, setting a new school record with a time of 4:10.93, surpassing the previous mark of 4:11.18.

That performance set the tone for the rest of team, which carried on to strong individual performances. Alexis Anderson had three big first place performances in different individual races (1000 Free, 200 Fly, & 500 Free). The Women's team ended up winning eight individual races along with both of their relays. These performances in team and relay event helped create an easy win by almost 50 points.

The Men's team also started off impressively in their first relay event but Urbana ended up storming back to set a pool record in the 400M relay with a time of 3:33.91. This didn't keep the Cardinals down however, as they put in some key individual performances following the loss.

The Men finished with 10 wins in individual races, highlighted by Matt Stover winning two races along with Jandre Strauss. These performances helped wrap up a comfortable win for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals return to the pool on February first when they play host to Washington and Jefferson College starting at 1:00PM.
