Bob Hutchings ‘73, Charles W. Mc Donald ’94, and Adam Zundell ‘00 Selected to Wheeling Jesuit Athletic Hall of Fame.

WHEELING, W.Va., -- Wheeling Jesuit University will induct three new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame at a 10 a.m. brunch, Saturday, Sept 28.
The induction ceremony will be held in the Alma Grace McDonough Center and is part of the Hall of Fame Weekend celebration for students, friends, family and alumni.

The 2013 Hall of Fame honorees include:

Bob "Hondo" Hutchings '73, a four-year basketball letter award winner at Wheeling College, scoring 1,046 points in his career. He was the first Cardinal to lead the WVIAC in free throw percentage, with a career best of .906 his junior year, improving on a .875 in his sophomore year, earning him Honorable Mention, All-Conference accolades both seasons. Over his career he averaged .864 from the line, tops among all NAIA schools nation wide.
 
Charles W. "Trey " McDonald '94, a basketball standout for the Cardinals in the early 90's, is a member of WJU's 1,000-point club with a total of 1,051 career points. McDonald was a two time, all WVIAC Conference performer, and also was named twice to the WVIAC all-tournament team.
 
Adam Zundell '00, a former WJU cross country and track runner was a two-time WJU Athlete of the Year in '99 and '00. Zundell was a three-time Academic All-American and a four-time all WVIAC honoree in cross-country and three-time all WVIAC in track. He was a member Cardinal teams who captured four WVIAC Track Championships and two WVIAC Cross Country Championships. Zundell also held the WVIAC's record in the steeplechase from '97-'01.
 
Bob Hutchings was not only prolific from the free-throw line, but in the Jesuit tradition, he has made a career out of coaching and leading young men and women.
 
After his days at Wheeling College, Hutchings traveled Europe pursuing a professional basketball career. Upon his return stateside, Hutchings enrolled at the U.S. Army Academy at West Point and in 1976 became the West Point Athlete of the Year. While at West Point, Hutchings also served as an assistant under Basketball Coach Mike Krzyzewski, now Head Coach at Duke University. Since then, Hutchings has traveled around the world coaching, including a stint in Saudi Arabia where coached the Saudi national senior and junior basketball teams, earning silver medals in the greater Arab Games.
 
Hutchings is currently coaching basketball at Richard Stockton College in New Jersey, a perennial NCAA Division III tournament contender. He is a 39-year member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He is married to Janet Lynn Hutchings, and has two sons, Robert and Ryan.
 
Trey McDonald stays connected to his basketball glory days at WJU by keeping involved in youth sports, coaching baseball, basketball, and being a Heritage Beta swim team sponsor and meet volunteer.
 
McDonald currently resides in Wake Forest, N.C., and is a managing partner with Capitol City Homes and DSS Land Development in Raleigh, N.C. He is married to Wheeling native Paula (Hill) and they have three children, Anna, Owen and Sara. 
 
Adam Zundell was one of WJU's brightest stars in the world of cross-country and track, and like so many Wheeling Jesuit student athletes – a star in the classroom as well. The first three-time NCAA Academic All-American for cross-country in school history, Zundell also became just the second athlete in WJU history to be named the first four-time All-WVIAC First Team honoree.

After Wheeling Jesuit, Zundell served as a graduate assistant at West Virginia University from 2000-03 in the sports communications office. He then went on to spend three years as assistant sports information director at the University of Maryland from 2003-06 before becoming the director of Athletic Media Relations and Marketing at Fairmont State University.

Zundell spent the last seven years at Fairmont State before becoming the associate commissioner for Communications at the newly formed Mountain East Conference in the summer of 2013.

Zundell is married to former Wheeling Jesuit track and cross-country standout Kelly (Maiden). The couple has three children, Drew, Tyler and Cara. The family resides in Morgantown, W.Va.

Established in 1987 to honor former student-athletes, coaches or other members of the Wheeling Jesuit community who have made significant contributions to the success of the WJU athletic programs, the Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame will number 78 members after these additions.
The Hall of Fame brunch and induction ceremony is part of Wheeling Jesuit's Hall of Fame Weekend. Other weekend athletic events include women's and men's soccer on Saturday afternoon and alumni events for the baseball, lacrosse and swim teams.
