Roger Guiseppi and Jim Regan Inducted to Wheeling Jesuit Athletic Hall of Fame, WJU Honors the 1991, ’92, ‘93 and 2002 Women’s Soccer Teams

The Hall of Fame ceremony was part of Wheeling Jesuit's Homecoming Weekend, which included a community parade, honors convocation, entertainment and sporting events.

WHEELING, W.Va.,---On Saturday, Oct. 20, Wheeling Jesuit University athletic department enshrined two new members into its Athletic Hall of Fame at a 10 a.m. brunch, held in the Alma Grace McDonough Center. The ceremony was part of the annual fall homecoming celebration for students, friends, family and alumni. Hall of Fame honorees included:

* Roger Guiseppi, a 1995 graduate and men's soccer three-time All-WVIAC,  two-time All-American, NCSAA Division II All-American and NAIA Senior Bowl selection.

* Jim Regan, a men's soccer head coach from 1983-Present, head women's coach 1988-2001, overall combined record of 539-297-55, eight district championships, seven regional championships, six conference championships, four national tournament appearances and five-time Coach of the Year recipient.

Guiseppi was a member of the Cardinal soccer team for three season, spanning from 1990 – 1994, He earned WVIAC All-Conference honors all three years. He helped lead the Cardinals to a 31-18-6 record, and secured NAIA All-American accolades in 1991 and 1994. In addition, Guiseppi was a two-time NAIA All-South Atlantic and NAIA All-Area VIII recipient.

In 1994, he played in the NAIA Senior Bowl and was named an NSCAA All-American. Guiseppi recorded 84 career points with 29 goals and 26 assists as a Cardinal, which currently ranks 8th on WJU's All-Time Scoring list.

After graduating from WJU, Guiseppi played semi-professional soccer with the Lexington Bluegrass Bandits of the United States International Soccer League (USISL) in Lexington, Ky. He played four years with the Bandits and, after a few injuries, decided to pursue a career in banking. He is currently the Bank Manager for Popular Community Bank.

Guiseppi resides in Orlando, Fla. with his wife of 16 years, Lori, and their three children, who all play soccer, Roman (13), Gabrielle (10) and Rio (4).
 
Coach Regan was named Wheeling Jesuit's head men's soccer coach in 1983, and in his first season at the helm, the Cardinals finished 11-6 overall. During his 30 year career, Regan guided the men's team to a 354-205-48 record. He is responsible for elevating the men's program to national prominence, with a top twenty ranking in 2003 and an Elite Eight appearance in the 2000 NCAA Division II National Tournament. 
 
In 1988, Regan established Wheeling Jesuit's women's soccer program. He spent 14 years leading the two teams on the field, before handing over the reigns in 2002 to current head women's coach, former player and WJU Hall of Famer Carrie Hanna. Regan compiled a record of 185-92-7 with the women for a 539-297-55 overall career mark.
 
His teams at Wheeling Jesuit generated 36 All-Americans, eight District Championships, seven Regional Titles, six WVIAC Championships and four National Tournament appearances. The five-time WVIAC Coach of the Year earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Coach of the Year award after the 2000 season.
 
Regan was inducted into the Bethany Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005 for his achievements on the soccer field. During his playing career, he was a two-time First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference selection and helped guide Bethany to four conference titles.
 
Regan resides in Wheeling with his wife, Jill, and their four children, who all played soccer at Wheeling Jesuit, Sean (30), Kyle (27), Brandon (26) and Danielle (23).

In addition to the Hall of Fame inductions, the Athletic Department honored the 1991, '92, '93 and 2002 Women's Soccer Teams. For three consecutive seasons, the '91, '92 and '93 women's teams won Regional Championships and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament. In a three year span, the Cardinals posted an overall record of 53-16 as the '91 team was 15-5, the '92 team went 20-4 and the '93 team finished 16-7.

The 2002 team was the first NCAA Division II National Tournament qualifying team. With a 16-5-1 record, the Cardinals earned WVIAC runner-up and finished the season ranked 20th in the nation.
Established in 1987 to honor former student-athletes, coaches or other members of the Wheeling Jesuit community who have made significant contributions to the success of the WJU athletic programs, the WJU Athletic Hall of Fame consists of 75 members.

A global leader in academic excellence, undergraduate research and service learning, Wheeling Jesuit University is one of 28 Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States. The University's 19 men and women's NCAA Division II athletic teams, plus its USA Rugby Division I varsity program, have won 62 championships. With 47 Academic All-Americans, WJU promotes excellence on the field and in the classroom. 

WJU is home to the NASA-sponsored Classroom of the Future, a Challenger Learning Center, the Clifford M. Lewis Appalachian Institute, and the Erma Ora Byrd Center for Educational Technologies (CET), an educational research and development group. CET is a pioneer in the creation of simulations for learning, including virtual reality, video games and video-conferenced role-playing missions. CET conducts educational research for agencies and foundations including NASA, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes for Health, the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
