Wheeling Athletics Rounds out Spring 2026 Academic Honors with 240 on Wheeling University Dean’s List

Wheeling, W. Va. - After the announcement of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Academic awards Wednesday, the Cardinals kept the success going in the classroom. They rounded out the Spring 2026 Academic Award schedule on Thursday with the release of the Wheeling University Spring 2026 Dean's List. Wheeling athletics would have 240 student-athletes represented on the list across all 22 varsity sports, rounding out a strong year in the classroom for the Cardinals.

The Wheeling University Dean's List is based on the Grade Point Average for the Spring 2026 semester, not the student's cumulative GPA, and is based on the number of credit hours they took that semester. In order to qualify for the Spring 2026 Dean's List, a student must maintain a 3.5 GPA for the semester and must be enrolled as a full-time student, taking 12 or more credit hours for the semester. For the athletic department, the student must also be an active member of the team at some point during the spring 2026 semester, including mid-year transfers for the university's fall and spring sports. During the Fall 2025 semester, the cardinals would place 250 student-athletes on the Dean's List, and round out the year with 240 honorees in the spring, bringing their total for the year to 490 student-athletes.

All 22 varsity teams that competed during the 2025-2026 season were represented on the list, with each program finishing with at least three honorees. Leading the way was the Wheeling University Football team, who had 38 players honored on the Spring 2026 list They were followed by Baseball (21) and Women's Soccer (18) to round out the top three for the department. The rest of the Wheeling Athletic programs that were honored were Men's Soccer (17), Softball (15), Women's Basketball (15), Women's Lacrosse (13), Volleyball (13), Acrobatics & Tumbling (11), Men's Rugby (10), Men's Lacrosse (9), Men's Swimming (9), Women's Swimming (9), Men's Golf (8), Women's Rugby (8), Wrestling (8), Men's Basketball (7), Men's Track & Field/Cross Country (5), Women's Golf (3), and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country (3).
