Wheeling, W. Va. - With the 2025-2026 season winding down, the Wheeling University Student-Athletes are heading into their summer training as they prepare for the 2026-2027 season. While the athletes are preparing for action, their will be a battle across social media as we kick-off our fifth annual Wheeling Athletics Fan Vote Awards. Nominations are open now, so nominate your favorite Wheeling Cardinals for one of our 12 awards by clicking HERE.
This year's fan vote awards will span 12 categories over 12 weeks of the summer, with a new list of nominees being unveiled every Monday. The 12 categories include, Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate/5th Year, Student-Athlete, Play, Team, Game, and Moment of the Year. All student-athletes who competed during the 2025-2026 season are eligible for nomination, and fans can nominate their favorite player by typing their name next to the award they want to nominate them for on the nomination form. All nomination forms will be collected and tallied, and the top four athletes that are nominated will be put head-to-head as the nominees for each award each week.
Once the four nominees are unveiled, fans will then have the chance to vote on each award based on reactions on our social media pages. Fans can vote across Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok, beginning at the time the nominees are revealed on Monday and running until 11:59 PM on Friday. Votes will be tallied on each platform based on reactions and engagement numbers, with the nominee who receives the reactions across all five platforms being the winner. On Facebook, fans can vote by reacting to tbe post with the corresponding reaction for the athlete they want to vote for. On X, a Fan Poll will be posted on Monday and will run through Friday, while YouTube, Instagram and Tik Tok will all be voted on by commenting the hashtag of your corresponding athlete.
The first Fan Vote Award that fans will have the chance to vote on will be Monday, May 11th, with the reveal of the Fan Vote Freshman of the Year nominees. Each week will feature a new category of athletes, with a chance for fans to vote throughout the week. Nominees will be announced every Monday in the morning hours, before noon, with the winners of each Fan Vote category being announced Saturday morning. Press Releases revealing the four nominees, as well as a press release for the winner, will be put out each day as well at wucardinals.com
