Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling University women's soccer team returns to the road Wednesday evening when the Cardinals travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup at 3 p.m. Wheeling enters the contest at 0-8-1 overall and 0-6-1 in MEC play after falling 6-1 to Concord Sunday, while the Bobcats enter at 3-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in conference play.
The Cardinals are coming off a six-goal setback against Concord in their most recent contest at Bishop Schmitt Field. Wheeling's lone goal came in the 89th minute when Jeanery Diaz found the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season. Katelyn MacInnis battled throughout the contest in goal, making 10 saves, while the Cardinals finished with six shots and two on goal. Wheeling will look to carry its offensive production from its recent 2-2 draw with West Virginia State into Wednesday's road matchup.
West Virginia Wesleyan ended a three-game losing streak last Saturday with a 2-0 road win over Davis & Elkins. Mia Rodriguez scored both goals for the Bobcats, with her first coming in the 64th minute and her second coming in the 72nd.
Wednesday marks the 36th meeting between Wheeling and West Virginia Wesleyan, with the Bobcats holding a 25-8-2 advantage in the all-time series. West Virginia Wesleyan has also won the most recent meeting, earning a 3-0 victory at Bishop Schmitt Field last October. The Cardinals' most recent win in the series came in 2024, when Wheeling earned a 1-0 road victory in Buckhannon.
The Cardinals will look to turn their recent offensive flashes into a complete 90-minute performance Wednesday as they continue the road portion of their MEC schedule. Following the matchup with Wesleyan, Wheeling will return home for a pair of October contests, beginning with Charleston on Oct. 4 and Shawnee State on Oct. 7.
