Wheeling, W. Va. - The Wheeling University women's soccer team returns home Sunday afternoon as the Cardinals host Concord in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) matchup at Bishop Schmitt Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wheeling enters the contest at 0-7-1 overall and 0-5-1 in MEC play after battling West Virginia State to a 2-2 draw Wednesday, earning its first result of the 2026 season.

The Cardinals took control early against the Yellow Jackets, scoring twice in the opening 37 minutes. Theresah Markwei opened the scoring in the 18th minute with her first goal of the season, while Jeanery Diaz doubled the advantage in the 37th minute with her third goal of the year. Wheeling carried the 2-0 lead into halftime and finished the night with a 7-6 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal. West Virginia State scored twice in the second half, but  Katelyn MacInnis made a save in goal as the Cardinals secured the draw.

Concord comes to Wheeling at 1-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play after playing Point Park to a scoreless draw Wednesday afternoon. Despite being held off the scoreboard, the Mountain Lions generated 23 shots and put 11 on goal, holding a 23-6 advantage in total shots. Ella Rowell led Concord with nine shots, while Molly Watters added four and Katie Garratt added three. Goalkeeper Maddie Loughborough made one save to record the shutout.

The Cardinals and Mountain Lions have met 34 times previously, with Concord holding a 18-12-4 advantage in the all-time series. Wheeling has dropped the last 10 meetings, including a 1-0 decision in Athens last season. The Cardinals' last victory over Concord came in 2016, when Wheeling earned a 2-0 home win.

Wheeling will look to build on Wednesday's performance as it returns to Bishop Schmitt Field for the first time since hosting Fairmont State on Sept. 20. The Cardinals put together their strongest offensive showing of the season against West Virginia State, scoring multiple goals in a game for the first time in 2026.
