JOHNSTOWN, PA. - The Wheeling University Men's Golf Team gets ready to partake in the Pitt Johnstown Invitational on September 28 and 29. It has been almost 20 long days since the last invitational the men played in back on September 8 and 9 since the Charleston Invitational got cancelled due to weather conditions.
The men had a strong start to the season, finishing second overall out of 20 teams in their only invitational. They set program records for the best round golfed by the team ever, and graduate student Sean Dobbs shot the best round in program history. Dobbs finished round one five below par in an excellent round one. He finished the day placing 12 and behind freshman Cormac Pearson and sophomore Lodin Femoen.
Pearson finished first for the Cardinals through the three rounds of play. The freshman played into the historical round one by hitting par on every hole except three, in which he hit for birdie instead. Pearson hit three birdies in round two but ultimately finished five over par for that round. In the third round he got another birdie and only shot one over par. He finished tied for 8th place and went three over par.
Femoen tied for 15th place and hit three under on hole one. He picked up birdies on holes 2, 8, 9, 11, and 13 in the round. Femoen then hit five more birdies in round two as he went even. In round three he went nine over par and finished the day six over par.
Senior Brandon Lee rounds out the top four and went even on round one, picking up three birdies along the way. On round two he hit 11 total pars, and in round three he hit another 11 pars with one birdie on hole 16. He finished tied for 45th place and shot 13 over par.
The invitational will start at 9 a.m. on Monday and will go into Tuesday.
