MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Charleston Invitational that the Wheeling University Cardinals Men's Golf Team was supposed to compete in has been cancelled. There is expected to be a lot of rain that would make the course conditions unplayable.
Wheeling is coming off a strong performance at the Charleston Golden Eagles Invitational, where the team finished second in a field of regional opponents. The team set the single-round record in the first round of action, shooting a combined 273 across the 18 holes to beat the previous record by 11 strokes. Along with the success as a team, graduate student Sean Dobson would set the single-round record with a 65 in that first round, and ended up finishing 12th overall. Freshman Cromac Pearson led the way, finishing tied for eighth in the field, including a –3 in the first round of action. It was a strong opening round for the Cardinals, and they look to continue that success as the season goes on.
With this cancellation their final invitational before the MEC tournament will be the Pitt Johnstown Invitational. This will take place in Johnstown, PA on September 28th and the 29th.
