Cardinals Kick-off Jesse Owens Classic with Top 10 Finish to Start Last Chance Schedule

Columbus, OH. - As the final push for the NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships begins, the Wheeling University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team kicked off their Last Chance schedule on day one of the Jesse Owens Classic. The Cardinals would have two competitors in the field, splitting the day between the track and field events. The team would pick up a top 10 finish as they sent their top performers against NCAA DI competition.

The top 10 finish on the day would come courtesy of Erick Berroa, who competed in the Men's Javelin, after taking second at the Mountain East Conference (MEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. He would throw a distance of 46.73 meters, putting him 10th overall, and first among the NCAA DII competitors in the field. After hitting 42.10 meters on his first throw, he would hit his top 10 mark on his second throw of the day. He would foul on the third throw to finish things out, and earn the top 10 finish for the Cardinals. The other performer on the day was freshman Kris Vigars, who took on the 400-Meter Hurdles. He would finish inside the top 15, running a time of 1:00.79, while also finishing as the top NCAA DII competitor at the event.

The Wheeling University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team returns to action on day two of the Jesse Owens Classic, with first events beginning at noon.
