The Cardinals Take Second Place in the MEC Men's Golf Championships

ELKINS, W.Va. - Concluding the Mountain East Conference Men's Golf Championships, the Wheeling University Cardinals Men's Golf team placed second overall. Three Cardinals finished in the top ten, and two of the three finished in the top five through the three rounds of play in the tournament.

Finishing first on the Cardinals team through three rounds was freshman Cormac Pearson, who placed third overall in the tournament. Pearson finished three over par through three rounds and went two over in round three. On the front nine of round three, he was able to par the first three holes, then hit a bogey followed by a birdie. He picked up another bogey and then hit for par the rest of the holes. On the back nine he hit a bogey, a double bogey, then followed the double bogey up with two birdies.

Coming in fifth place in the tournament and second on his team was graduate student Sean Dobson. Dobson shot five over par through the three rounds and three over par in round three. He started out hitting a bogey on hole one but hit for par the next five holes and picked up a birdie on hole seven, then hit two more pars. On the back nine he picked up a double bogey on hole 11, hit a bogey on hole 12, then hit three straight pars, hit a birdie on hole 16, and then another bogey on 17.

Sophomore Elias Ekenes-Fosback tied for eighth place and hit nine over par while hitting just two over par in round three. On the front nine today, he too started hole one off with a bogey but evened it out with a birdie on hole five. On the back nine he hit two bogeys on holes 12 and 17. He hit for the rest of the back nine.

Tying for 16th place in the tournament was sophomore Lodin Femoen, as he hit 13 over par and four over par in round three. On the front nine he hit a bogey, double bogey, and two birdies on holes six and seven. On the back nine he again hit a bogey, a double bogey, and then hit only one birdie on hole 14.

Freshman Jamie Button, who had subbed in for junior Zak Collins for round three only, finished first for the Cardinals. Button shot three under par, only hitting two bogeys through 18 holes, and had five birdies.

The Cardinals will be in action next in Farmington, PA, for the Findlay Invitational. This invitational will take place October 19 through 21.
