Wheeling, W. Va. - The PGA Hope Invitational rounded out the fall schedule for the Wheeling University Women's Golf team as they took seventh in the field. The Mountain East Conference (MEC) released their weekly Golfer of the Week honors, and the Cardinals round out the fall by being honored. Junior Sawyer Hobbs would be named the MEC Women's Golfer of the Week, rounding out the fall with a tie for first at the PGA Hope Invitational.
Hobbs would end up tying for first to round out the fall, shooting a 150 (+6) across the two-round event. She would tie for the tournament lead with the 83rd ranked player in the country, Brooklyn Millard from Jefferson, while beating out the #103 ranked player in Cloe Mateo from Gannon University. In the first round, She would come out strong, shooting a 76 to sit in the top five of the event. However, it was her day two effort that would earn her the tie for first in the field when she shot a 74 to lead the entire tournament field. Across the two rounds of competition, Hobbs would rack up eight birdies to lead the Cardinals, rounding out her fall on a high note. She moved up to #37 in the Atlantic Region with the effort, and secured her first tournament win of the season.
Her best round came in the second round of the tournament, where she shot a 74 (+2), dropping two strokes off her round one score. After starting her round with a bogey, Hobbs would rebound with a birdie on hole 12 to come back to even. She would shoot one more birdie in the round before adding a stroke to his score and hitting the turn sitting at +1. As she moved to the front nine, she started things out with a par, before getting back to even with a birdie on hole two. It was the third time this season that Hobbs won the Women's Golfer of the Week honor, as she has won all three honors for the Women's Golf team this season. She is the second Cardinal to be honored this week, joining Men's Golfer Cormac Pearson in being honored.
