Zack Zeigler Promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Engagement

Wheeling, W.Va.- The Wheeling University Athletic Department announced on Thursday that Sports Information Director Zack Zeigler has been promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Communications and Engagement. With his new title, Zeigler will continue his current SID duties, while adding new responsibilities.

"Wheeling Athletics has become a second home for me, and I am very excited to be able to continue my role in a larger capacity," said Zeigler. "We have so many great student-athletes, coaches, and administrators who make telling their stories and promoting their work a joy to do every day. I can't wait to continue telling their stories and helping Wheeling Athletics be a part of the university's goal to become (the city of) Wheeling's university."

"The new title will better reflect his responsibilities in the department, as Zeigler has repeatedly shown his drive and willingness to put Wheeling Athletics in the best possible light", said Carrie Hanna, Director of Athletics. He will remain the primary contact for all 22 sports offered at the university, manage the Wheeling Athletics website and oversee the athletic social media platforms. Additionally, he will continue connecting the Athletic Department to the community by planning engaging events, serve as the lead for all game day operations and event management, and manage all athletic sponsorship packages.

Zeigler has served as the Wheeling University SID for five years now and has overseen tremendous success from the Cardinals' teams, players, and coaches. He has helped cover a total of 167 All-Mountain East Conference (MEC) honorees, 37 All-Atlantic Region honorees, and 23 All-American honorees. He has provided coverage for several MEC, regional, and national tournament appearances, including three national championships.

During his tenure with the department, Zeigler has introduced a variety of innovative ways to showcase athletes and the university. During the 2022-23 season, he established the "Cardinal High Flyer of the Week" program to recognize the successes of student-athletes on and off the field. He showed initiative during the 2024 fall semester by organizing two outreach events, "Trunk or Treat" and "Stuff the Truck", to involve the university in the greater Wheeling community. Last year, Zeigler assisted in the re-establishment of the Wheeling University Hall of Fame, which inducted the largest class since its founding with 11 members.

Hanna stated, "Zack Zeigler is a person of many talents from game day operations, cameo singing of the national anthem to planning and executing campus and community engagement events such as our annual High Flyer and Hall of Fame events to trunk or treat (playing the part in full costume), Stuff the Truck, school supply drives and so much more!  Wheeling University is truly blessed to have Zack working tirelessly to constantly create innovative ways to share and celebrate all of our Cardinal Family members... students and personnel alike throughout Wheeling's past, present, and future!"

Zeigler is a 2017 graduate of Waynesburg University, holding a Bachelor's Degree in Communications with a focus on Sports Broadcasting/Sports Information, and earning a minor in Journalism. He earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Wheeling University this past spring.
