Berea, OH. – After a long week of training, the Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team wrapped up their Last Chance Meet schedule on Friday night. They sent freshman distance runners Magnus Polkner to compete in the Men's 1500 Meter Run, and event he has excelled in throughout the year. He set a big PR and cracked the top 40 of the event in what could be his final run of the 2025 Outdoor Season.
Polkner was one of 79 runners to compete in the event and was able to crack the top 40, finishing 35th overall. He set a new PR by over two seconds, running a time of 4:00.11 in the event, beating out his previous PR of 4:02.40. While he was the only Cardinal competitor on the day, he was one of five Mountain East Conference (MEC) runners to compete in the event. He would be the top competitor from the conference, beating out West Liberty's Francis Toohey by a full second. Despite not hitting the provo mark for the event, it was a strong finish to Polkner's freshman season and he looks to continue that success as he grows on the track.
The Wheeling University Men's Track & Field team will now await to see if they have any qualifiers in the upcoming 2025 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
