Westerville, OH. - As the outdoor track & field regular season came to an end, the Wheeling University Men's Outdoor Track & Field team headed to Westerville, Ohio for their final tune-up.The team would take on the Otterbein Twilight Invitational and had several of their young athletes show big days. It was a heavy emphasis on the field events, with the team bringing home three total top 10 finishes across six events competed in across the day.
The top individual finish would come from the throwers with freshman Erik Berroa continuing his success in the Men's Javelin. He entered the event ranked 4th in the conference in the event, and would finish second in the field this time out with a distance of 47.75 meters. It was just under two meters shy of his PR of 49.16 meters, but was good enough for his highest individual placement of the season. It was also the second time this season he has cleared the 45-meter mark as he looks to make a statement at the 2025 Mountain East Conference (MEC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships. It was his third top 10 finish in four outdoor events this season as he finished as the highest point scorer for his team.
The other top 10 finishes were split between the track and the field, beginning with Magnus Polkner in the Men's 800-Meter Run. Polkner matched Berroa's 2nd place finish on the day, running a time of 1:56.01, finishing as the top MEC competitor in the race. It was a new PR for the event, beating his old mark by .23 seconds as he continues to be a leader in the distance events. The final top 10 finish would come in the Men's Triple Jump with Kabwe Bwalya continuing his success from indoor season. He would take 4th in the field reaching a distance of 13.63 meters. He has gradually increased his distance in the event with each meet this season and looks to peak in a week at the MEC Outdoor Championship event.
The final track event of the day would feature the sprinters taking on the 100-Meter Dash in two separate heats. Up first was the qualifier event, with Cameron McMillion running for the Cardinals. The senior would take 25th in the heat with a time of 11.58 seconds, setting a new PR for the event. The prelims were up next, and the Cardinal's top sprinter Jan Wray would take to the blocks. He would miss qualifying for the finals by just four spots, taking 12th in the field with a time of 10.90 seconds. The final event of the day for the Cardinals would be the Men's Shot Put with Jered Rhodes competing for the third time this season. Rhodes would finish 29th in the field, reaching a distance of 11.17 meters to round out what has been a strong regular season.
