Wheeling, W. Va. – The Wheeling University Men's and Women's Golf teams wrapped up their spring season on Thursday morning when they hosted Point Park in a dual match. It was a day of celebration, with three seniors playing their final collegiate event for the Women's team, and the Cardinals were able to finish their season on a high note. The two teams combined their scores and took down the Pioneers in match play by the final score of 24.5 to 5.5.
On the women's side, all six golfers competed, splitting up into three groups of four players. Group one featured a pair of seniors in
Emily Holzopfel and
Kylee Tolliver and they would start the day off strong. Holzopfel, who is the most decorated Wheeling Women's Golfer since former Cardinal Kasey Frazier, who made four Regional Championships and was crowned MEC Championship three times. Holzopfel would win her match and ended her senior year strong.
Kylee Tolliver also won her match for the team to get a clean sweep in the first group. Group two features
Nicole Lincicome and
Marra Johnson while the third group was
Zoila Herrera and
Ella Keffer. All six would win their matches and it was up to the guys to secure the victory.
The men's side had three different golfers competing as
Nick Zaller,
Alex Parker, and
Ethan Short all took the course. They are separated into two different groups with Zaller and Parker making up the first group. Zaller played well, sitting two under after the front nine, but his opponent went shot for shot with him as he rounded out the day.
Alex Parker, on the other hand, picked up a big match win, winning both the front nine and the back nine.
Ethan Short was the final Cardinal to compete, winning his match as part of group three to round out the afternoon.
The Wheeling University Men's and Women's Golf team now heads into the off-season as they build towards their fall season.
