Wheeling, W. Va. - On Friday, Wheeling University announced the dates for the 2022 Homecoming and Family Weekend, which will be held from October 7th – October 9th, 2022. It is a time for current and former students to come together and celebrate their time at Wheeling University and what their alma mater means to them. On that weekend, the Wheeling University Athletic teams will give students, alumni, and their families plenty to cheer about, with home events happening throughout the weekend in the Alma Grace McDonough Center and on Bishop Schmitt Field.
The action kicks off on Friday, October 7th, with the Wheeling Volleyball and Wheeling Rugby teams both in action. It starts with Volleyball as they play the first of two weekend games against Mountain East Conference (MEC) opponent the University of Concord. Meanwhile, over at Bishop Schmitt Field, the Wheeling Rugby team will continue their first season in the newly formed Big Rivers Rugby Conference (BRRC). They will host a non-conference match that day against Notre Dame College, a game that came down to a last second try a year ago.
The weekend continues Saturday with three more exciting games, headlined by the fourth annual Homecoming Football Game. This year's contest will be against UNC-Pembroke on October 8th at noon and will feature the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen at halftime. After that, the action splits as Volleyball returns to the Alma Grace McDonough Center and Men's Soccer stays at Bishop Schmitt Field. Volleyball will wrap up their weekend against Glenville State in MEC play while Men's Soccer will entertain the Bobcats from Frostburg State.
The weekend culminates on Sunday at Bishop Schmitt Field as the Wheeling Women's Soccer team continues the weekend rivalry between Wheeling and Frostburg State. The Cardinals and Bobcats will meet in an MEC contest to wrap up the weekend as Wheeling looks to add another game to the win column. With six contests all at home that weekend, there will be plenty of opportunity for parents, families, and alumni to connect with their favorite Wheeling University Athletics teams.
Family, friends, and alumni are encouraged to come out for a weekend packed full of fun here at Wheeling University. Along with the six athletic events spanning the weekend, there will also be other alumni and family activities scheduled to happen across campus. Everyone is encouraged to come out and join in on the family culture here at Wheeling University.
