Brian Vandusen was in the spotlight on day two of the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships. He competed in the Men's High Jump, and finished 14th in the event, clearing the 2.00 meter mark for the second time this season.
Vandusen competed in a field of 15 other competitors from across the country all qualifying in events throughout the year. For Vandusen, he hit the qualifying mark at the Douglas Raymond Invitational back on February 11th. He had been competing in both the Long Jump and the High Jump throughout the season, but in this meet, he went for the High Jump. He hit the provisional mark for the first time this season, jumping 2.10 meters and finishing second in the event. It gave Wheeling two qualifiers for the National Championship.
The opening mark for the event was 2.00 meters and went up to as high as 2.20 meters. Vandusen cleared the first round of the event, passing the mark on his second jump. He moved on to the 2.05-meter mark, but couldn't clear it ending his night. He finished in a tie for 14th with Western Washington's Beau Sheeran. The winner of the event was Ushan Perrera from TAMU-Commerce, who cleared the mark at 2.17 meters.
With Indoor Season officially wrapped up, the Wheeling Track & Field team now turns their attention to outdoor season in two weeks.
