Pittsburg, KS. – The 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships kicked off on Friday afternoon with the best of the best across the country meeting in Pittsburg, Kansas. Wheeling's first representative,
Jabez Reeves got the chance to compete in the 60-Meter Dash representing Wheeling.
Reeves competed in the third heat, and came into the event with a season-best time of 6.76 seconds, a mark he hit at Kent State University. He competed against six other runners in his heat with runners from Tusculum, TAMU-Commerce, West Texas A&M, Ashland, and Alabama-Huntsville. Reeves needed to finish top eight to qualify for the National Championship, which would be run on Saturday. Reeves would run in lane six and came in with the fifth-highest provisional mark among his opponents.
He had a strong outing, running a 6.85, but it can't be enough to qualify as he finished 15th in the country. In his heat, he finished fifth out of the six runners and finished just .12 seconds behind the winner of his heat, Tusculum's Widchard Guervil. It was a strong way for Reeves to end the Indoor Season, and gives him momentum going into outdoor season.
The NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships continue on Saturday, March 12th when
