Wheeling University announces adjustments to spectator policy

WHEELING, W.Va. (March 10) – Following the Mountain East Conference policy that provided institutional discretion in permitting a limited number of spectators at outdoor athletic events, Wheeling University is proud to announce the following adjustments to its spectator policy beginning March 10, 2021.

*No spectators will be permitted at indoor contests for the remainder of the spring season.

HOME EVENTS AT BISHOP SCHMITT FIELD (SOCCER, LACROSSE, FOOTBALL, RUGBY)
  • No public tickets will be sold.
  • A player pass list will be utilized for access to the venue.
  • An additional, limited number of campus community members will have access on a first-come first-serve basis by showing their campus ID.
  • Visiting fans or parents will not be permitted at this time.
  • Parking lots will open one hour prior to game time. 
  • No tailgating at this time. 
  • No concessions will be served and no outside food will be permitted.
  • Gates will open 30 minutes prior to game time. Please to do not congregate near entrance.
  • Face coverings are required to be worn at all times. 
  • Social distancing must be observed.
  • Spectators will be required to leave the facility immediately following the contest.
  • Spectators may not visit or utilize any other facilities or buildings on campus.
HOME EVENTS AT JB CHAMBERS I-470 COMPLEX (BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL)
  • Face coverings are required to be worn at all times. 
  • Social distancing must be observed.
  • Home spectator limitations will be followed and coordinated by team.
  • Additionally, spectators are encouraged to bring their personal folding chairs, towels, blankets, etc. to allow for proper social distancing in the outfield.
  • Visiting fans or parents will not be permitted at this time.
  • Spectators are asked to refrain from retrieving any foul balls and/or home runs in their vicinity, as student-athletes and game management staff will be responsible for collecting the balls.
  • Spectators will be required to leave the facility immediately following the contest.
Wheeling University Athletics will continue to stream as many home contests as possible live on mountaineast.tv and the Mountain East Conference OTT app.

Decisions regarding future attendance policy changes will be based upon institutional, conference, NCAA, and local and state health and safety guidelines.
